The follow up to Jason’s very successful 2019 SOP seminar will be held in Erfurt, Germany on Saturday, 7 March 2020. While recapping the key elements of the previous presentation such as checklists, briefings and standard operating procedures, the 2020 version of the seminar will add substantial additional material on the IFR/VFR transition, radar, aircraft systems knowledge for IFR and an IFR accident review. Thus it should be interesting for those who attended last year and for those who didn’t.
Subjects to be covered (bold new for this year):
Use of checklists
SOPs for different stages of flight
Aircraft systems knowledge – can you pass a type rating ‘oral exam’ on your plane?
Radar – do you actually know how to use it?
The difficult world of IFR/VFR transitions
IFR accident reviews
Erfurt is the capital city of Thuringia, with one of the best preserved medieval city centres in Germany. It was also where the reformation was incubated with Martin Luther studying and being ordained as a priest there. In addition to the seminar, we will also arrange an optional city tour and lunch for partners (to be paid for separately). The city is served by a high quality IFR airport which is easily accessed from all directions. Equally road and rail access is excellent.
In spite of the ancient city, the seminar will be in the modern Dorint Hotel am Dom which should provide more comfort for attendees than the rather cramped space last year. The seminar will conclude with a social dinner for attendees and partners at the Dorint hotel. The price for the seminar including lunch and tea/coffee breaks plus dinner is €120/per person. For additional guests at the dinner the price is €45 per person. Please note drinks at dinner must be paid for separately.
Rooms are available at the Dorint hotel for the Saturday night only but there are numerous high quality hotels in the city. Many members will arrive Friday and depart Sunday. We suggest those attending make their own arrangements for a suitable choice of accommodation. This link to Booking.com
may help to locate hotels near the centre of Erfurt within walking distance of the conference venue (Dorint Hotel am Dom).
We hope to make this an enjoyable, as well as educational, weekend. Accompanying persons are encouraged to join us and it is highly likely that a guided tour of the local town will be arranged. Dining arrangements are planned to be relaxed on the Friday night but an informal dinner will be arranged for the Saturday evening and we encourage as many people as possible to make it a weekend trip (or even longer should you desire)
